There are many resources available for home-schoolers, public educators, and especially for parents. We watch our kids carefully on the internet, and many social forums are not so good. There is one site that I would recommend, both for adults and for kids around middle-school age and up. It’s called Smartest Person You Know, and is all about science and history, asking questions, and finding answers. Talk about a great place to collaborate for research topics and projects!
Smartestpersonyouknow.com is a young web-site, but seems to be well managed. Content is supposed to be appropriate for young viewers, and pertain to asking and answering questions, as well as functioning as a discussion forum on many subjects. It is a great place to learn how to defend your view point and learn something new! Discussion topics range from light and funny, to hard-core science, including genetic engineering, jokes, and facts. Check it out, ask a question, or help someone find an answer!
Besides the discussion forums, there are plenty of free educational games on the web-site, covering geography, math, human anatomy (naming bones and muscles) and reasoning skills, some even appropriate for 1st and 2nd graders! Adults will find the games challenging as we have often forgotten much of what we learned as children. It’s great fun for the whole family! Check it out and tell me what you think!
