Response from The White House on Raw Milk

I recieved this email from the White House tonight because of a petition to legalize the sale of raw milk over state lines.

“Food Safety and Raw Milk

Thank you for signing a petition about legalizing raw milk and for participating in the We the People platform on WhiteHouse.gov. We appreciate consumer concerns on food issues and understand the importance of letting consumers make their own food choices.

This Administration believes that food safety policy should be based on science. In this case, we support pasteurization to protect the safety of the milk supply because the health risks associated with raw milk are well documented.

Pasteurization of milk was adopted decades ago as a basic public health measure to kill dangerous bacteria and largely eliminate the risk of getting sick from one of the most important staples of the American diet. In 1987, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a regulation prohibiting the interstate sale of raw milk to reduce the number of illnesses and outbreaks associated with its consumption.

In recent years, some Americans have rejected pasteurization in favor of raw (or unpasteurized) milk, citing a range of taste, nutritional, and health benefits they believe are associated with raw milk consumption, as well as a general preference for unprocessed food.

As a science-based regulatory agency, the FDA looks to the scientific literature for information on benefits and risks associated with raw milk. While the nutritional and health benefits of raw milk consumption have not been scientifically substantiated, the health risks are clear. Since 1987, there have been 143 reported outbreaks of illness – some involving miscarriages, still births, kidney failure and deaths – associated with consumption of raw milk and raw milk products that were contaminated with pathogenic bacteria such as Listeria, Campylobacter, Salmonella, and E. coli. The FDA’s position on raw milk is in concert with the Center for Disease Control and the American Academy of Pediatricians.

The FDA does not regulate intrastate raw milk sales, or selling raw milk within a state, which is left up to the individual states. Today, 20 states explicitly prohibit the intrastate sale of raw milk in some form and 30 allow it. FDA bans interstate raw milk sales, or selling raw milk across state lines. The FDA has never taken, nor does it intend to take, enforcement action against an individual who purchases and transports raw milk across state lines solely for his or her own personal consumption.

Despite overwhelming response by the people of this country, the FDA has decided they know better than the people, who are supposed to run this country, what we should eat and how we can sell it. Our rights will continue to be infringed upon, despite pleading from the people who are becoming powerless to stop the continued infringement on personal rights. Today, nearly everything we do is controlled by the government organizations. Read this. According to Wisconsin Judge Patrick J. Fiedler, we have no fundamental right to grow, raise, or consume any particular food.

So, we say, “go back to the constitution of our country, let’s read that and see what it says!”. Guess what? Many judges, as well as many people in this country, are fighting to re-write the Constitution of the United Sates of America! Here is what is said on the “Occupy Wall Street” blog/newsletter;

“Why does the U.S. Constitution need to be rewritten? Here are few major reasons: 1. The world in which the Constitution was created is gone. Almost every aspect of human life has DRASTICALLY changed since the Constitution was created; 2. The fundamental terms used to express concepts in the Constitution were used in a very superficial way, often with meanings very different from current usage; 3. issues were included and approached in the Constitution based on the social needs and beliefs of the time. Most of those needs and beliefs have radically changed; 4. Many new issues have arisen that the Constitution didn’t anticipate; and 5. The Constitution did not provide sufficient provisions to prevent a COUP of the government by industry and the banks.”

Notice that the Constitution represents what our founding fathers considered our fundamental rights. Look at the Declaration of Independence, where the oppressed created a new country to help right the wrongs in their past countries;

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. That whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it, and to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness.”

You might find this link to be interesting reading on our rights as well. I find it interesting that the PEOPLE in this country are rebelling, but the government, who fund and pay attention to only their own studies, tell us we can’t do things any way but what the FDA says is correct based on THEIR scientific studies.  It makes me very angry. I don’t know how to make things change, but I sure want to! They allow cigarettes, but not raw milk. They allow Monsanto to put Agent Orange in corn to feed to people and livestock, but they don’t allow raw milk. Fools! Wake up! This is wrong, no matter how you look at it. Consumers should control the sale of products. If people are afraid of raw milk, don’t buy it! But don’t force those who want it to go without. Grrrr….

    There is so much I would like to say in response but words fail me. I will try to express myself this way: As Jehovah’s Witnesses, we believe the Bible explains that the ‘whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one’ and that he is ‘the ruler of the world’ including the governments. I believe this has become more and more clear over time. How I look forward to a righteous rulership under Jesus Christ! And raw milk available to all who want it! :O)
